THERMAL PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION OF UNIVERSITY BUILDING IN HUMID TROPICAL CLIMATE (UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur University Building Case Study)

ABSTRACT

            Generally, university buildings that we know have long-shape or long block. It has consequences with the building thermal aspect. If not suitable with the wind-direction, it can accumulate thermal in the building. The next step that can be achieve is by reducing heat in the heat increasing buffer aspect through heat increasing buffer material and the right proportion shape to produce optimal thermal.

            The purpose of this research is to achieve several variants in thermal performance according to the variation in material, orientation and shape aspects. These variants statistically arrange to become compared ingredients to be look for optimal comfort condition in humid tropical area.

            The achieved comfort conditions are done to get results variation from several variables which are configured into several conditions toward optimal thermal performance in the building. That several conditions are spread to several kind of research simulation to achieve several results which can be compared.

            The stages to achieve this optimal condition are by observing the field to get general condition as a preliminary parameter of thermal physics in the research. In compliance with those processes, study about theories that connecting with the thermal effort process and its management are being done. The next  stage, the collected data are processed using computer simulation such a Ecotect V 5.5, Aiolos V 1.0 and Weather Tools V 2.0. Several variation as   results of the simulation are arranged in diagram graphic to be analyzed its critical point and  optimum condition.

            This research with limited permutation gives batako material configuration result , biggest opening is south oriented, and ratio form 1:4 can  decrease discomfort degree hours up to 3% from existing condition. The more  influential variable in the discomfort score changing is the form of the building.

EVALUASI PENGHAWAAN ALAMI BANGUNAN PENDIDIKAN BERFUNGSI KELAS GEDUNG GIRI REKA UPN VETERAN SURABAYA JAWA TIMUR

ABSTRAK

Bangunan pendidikan termasuk dalam jenis bangunan mempunyai tingkat aktifitas penggunaan yang menerus. Aktifitas yang dilakukan secara ruitn menuntut derajat kenyamanan yang memenuhi syarat sehingga aktifitas dapat berjalan dengan ideal.

Secara ideal pengukuran derajat kenyamanan terhadap penghawaan sebuah bangunan/ruang ditentukan oleh aliran udara yang masuk dalam sebuah bangunan/ruang. Namun Jumlah aliran udara yang terdapat dalam ruangan selanjutnya akan menentukan nilai air change dalam setiap jam. Jumlah ideal aliran udara dalam ruang dapat dihitung dengan merujuk terhadap standar kebutuhan udara per orang dikalikan dengan jumlah pengguna ruangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan evaluasi terhadap bangunan pendidikan yang mempunyai fungsi kelas. Bangunan pendidikan yang diteliti berlokasi di UPN Veteran Surabaya. Metode yang dilakukan adalah membuat simulasi bangunan pendidikan dalam program Aiolos dengan menggunakan data iklim dan bangunan dari lokasi penelitian. Dengan membandingkan kebutuhan standar ideal maka didapatkan karakteristik kinerja penghawaan bangunan tersebut.

Penelitian ini menghasilkan nilai air flow dan air change pada gedung Giri Reka UPN Veteran Jatim yang menggambarkan kinerja penghawaan alami didalam bangunan pendidikan.

Orientation Optimization of Flat Building in Humid Tropical Climate : Case study on UPN Veteran East Java’s apartment

Flats building is a particular type of building with high occupancy levels. High occupancy building has specific indications from the appearance. The spatial organization consist of many similar room with similar area planning. The arrangement between the units of the same type and shape are set in a row for the overall efficiency of spatial planning. Hot-humid tropical climate has the characteristics of environmental conditions with high temperatures and humidity. Areas in humid tropical climate have the characteristics of high intensity direct sunlight. Indonesia is located on the equator, so each direction of building elements have an opportunity to get a large enough sunlight and in some cases even too abundant . The larger the building envelope which are exposed to sunlight result in greater changes in the temperature rise inside the building.
